Bonnies beat Temple on King's home run
April 20, 2003
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - St. Bonaventure sophomore shortstop Craig King hit a two-out, ninth inning home run as the Bonnies downed Temple 4-2 at Erny Field today. With the win, the Bonnies edged out the Owls 2-1 for the series. Starting the scoring for the Bonnies in the fourth, freshman leftfielder Dan Bratys singled to score freshman designated hitter Matt Agostonelli. Agostonelli walked to lead off the inning. The Owls earned the run back in the bottom of the same inning on a home run from first baseman Rob Cucinotta off senior pitcher Matt Gunesch. One inning later, catcher Mike Brown gave Temple the lead on his home run over the left field fence. The Bonnies came back to tie things up in the seventh. King started the inning with a single up the middle. Senior first baseman Kevin Ryan moved King to third on a single to center field. King scored as relief pitcher Chris Kurtz got Agostonelli to ground into a double play. After King's homerun in the ninth, Kurtz walked both Ryan and junior pitcher Soren Johnson before giving up an RBI single to senior right fielder Mike Rapacioli. Johnson ended the Owls' rally, striking out two in the ninth. St. Bonaventure improves its record to 17-11-1 overall and 6-5 in the Atlantic 10. Temple drops to 13-17 overall, 6-6 in the A-10.
