Saint Joseph's stuns Bonnies for A-10 pair

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - Saint Joseph's took both games of an Atlantic 10 Conference doubleheader at St. Bonaventure on Saturday at McGraw-Jennings Field, winning 11-1 and 11-10.

The Hawks overcame a 9-4 deficit in the nightcap, rallying for seven runs in the sixth inning to take an 11-9 lead. The Bonnies scored in the bottom of the sixth when freshman outfielder Dan Bratys doubled and later scored on a ground out. But Hawks relief pitcher Mike Walls got the Bonnies to go 1-2-3 in the seventh to record the save.

The Bonnies had 10 hits in the second contest led by junior shortstop Eric Wilson, who went 3-3 with his fourth home run of the year and three RBIs. Senior first baseman Kevin Ryan had two hits including the first home run of his career, and Bratys added a pair of hits.

In the opener, Saint Joseph's sophomore Al Braun limited the Bonnies to just five hits. The Hawks exploded for eight runs in the seventh inning to turn a 3-1 lead into a rout. Saint Joseph's touched Bona senior ace Kyle Johnson for 10 runs on 10 hits over 6-1/3 innings.

St. Bonaventure fell to 18-14-1 overall and 6-7 in the Atlantic 10. Saint Joseph's, which entered the day one spot behind the Bonnies in the Atlantic 10 East division in fifth place, improved to 15-23 overall and 9-8 in the A-10.

The Bonnies and Hawks will complete their series on Sunday with a nine-inning contest beginning at noon.
