Bonnies finish in tie for eighth Frank Landrey Invitational

Oct. 15, 2008

GORDONSVILLE, Va. - The St. Bonaventure golf team concluded play at the three round-Frank Landrey Fall Invitational on Tuesday at Spring Creek Golf Club in a tie for eighth place in the 15-team field.

After finishing off the second round with a four-man score of 293 in early part of the morning, the Bonnies entered the third and final round in the afternoon in a tie for fifth place. Unfortunately, for the Brown and White they managed to shoot their worst score of the two days with a 304 for a three-round score of 894 (297-293-304/894).

Longwood University led from start to finish and finished nine strokes ahead of Radford University (877). James Madison (879), Delaware (882) and fellow Atlantic 10 member Richmond (888) rounded out the top five.

Senior Brennan Payne recorded his second top 10 finish of the fall, finishing in a five-way tie for ninth place with a 72 (E)-72 (E)-73 (+1)/217. Payne carded 12 of St. Bonaventure's 39 birdies and two of the four eagles over the two days. The Pioneer High graduated also ranked in the top 10 of the 86-player field in par 3 scoring (-2) and par 5 scoring (-4).

Junior Nathan Peck and sophomore Chris Stoddard each contributed a score in all three rounds. Peck fired back-to-back 73s to open the tournament, but his 78 in the third round pushed him back into a tie for 25th overall. Like Peck, Stoddard's best two rounds came over the opening 36 holes in the form of a 74 and 76, respectively; while his 77 was the team's third counting score in the final round.

Freshman Kevin Lewis and William Markey continued to gain experience in the opening season of their freshmen campaigns. Lewis' even-par 72 in the second round highlighted a three-round 78-72-79/229. Markey's 76 in the final round was the team's second best score.

Richmond's Brad Miller earned medalist honors by three strokes with a 70-71-69/210, despite playing as an individual.

St. Bonaventure will now have nearly two weeks off before playing in its final tournament of the fall. The Bonnies will take part in the Old Dominion/Seascape Collegiate Invitational starting on Monday, October 27.
